Until May 11, Galerie Youn presents the solo exhibit Lithikos by Toronto artist Christine Kim. She graciously studies the theme of frontiers by superimposing perspectives such as: interior and exterior, self and other, shadow and light. Lithikos Gallerist Juno Youn noticed Christine Kim in 2010 in Toronto. He noted her outstanding talent for handling paper and produce works that force us to reflect on the body and the space it inhabits, on the passage of time, aging, buildings’ wear and life’s triumph as a result. Mastering the techniques of paper cutting, folding and crumpling, Kim uses flat paper to create three-dimensional works that combine illustration, collage and cut-out lace. Faces and bodies transform into landscapes or take on architectural shapes. Buildings in ruins get a new life. Through its play of light and shadow, Christine Kim’s work takes direct inspiration from the actions of time and reveals the immutable reality of a perpetually changing world.

Christine Kim works primarily in illustration, cut paper and installation. She has exhibited in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and presented Paper Orbs, an interactive paper installation for Nuit Blanche (Toronto, 2013), as well as an immersive paper installation for Come Up to My Room (2014). Her work has been published in Paradise of Paper Art and Paper Works II. She works as a freelance illustrator, artist and arts educator in Toronto.
