Annyen Lam

Drawing from personal histories of escapism through imagination, Lam creates two- and three-dimensional paper works of fictitious environments while investigating the sculptural possibilities of paper.

Lam’s recent paper-cuts examine the tensions inherent in seeking location while experiencing dislocation, as well as our relationship to the ecology of landscape as seen through ancient and modern-day practices. Underpinning all of her work is a discussion on space as an intrinsic part of the human condition, and on how we identify—and subsequently transform—within specific places.
