Lucas Biagini

Lucas Biagini (born in 1996 in Toronto) is an emerging artist exploring the potential of materials. In 2018, Biagini graduated from OCAD University with a BFA in drawing and painting. Working with an array of materials such as oil, acrylic, plasticine, wax, plaster, saw dust, and sand, he creates works that focus on processes, materiality, geology, and verism. Being a young artist, Biagini is not concerned with binding himself to one single idea or style of painting, but rather aims to create spontaneously and without restriction.

STATEMENT
Lucas Biagini is a Toronto-based abstract painter. His curiosity for materials leads him to combine colour, line and process to create visually dynamic and sculptural abstract paintings. He uses paint in different ways:thick, thin, and coarse. This allows him to emphasize one plain of colour and material against another, ultimately creating strong contrast and dualities throughout his paintings. His works vary in style, but what resonates amongst them all is the underlying investigation into ways that paint can be used to spark interest or insight into new visual experiences.
