Démarche artistique

Ces deux œuvres (Charro Suit 3 et Charro Suit 5) sont issues de ma série intitulée Atlas invisible.

Je combine des images photographiques avec des éléments de dessin minimalistes, offrant mon interprétation visuelle de la façon dont l’énergie interne et externe se forme autour et à travers les objets, l’environnement et les corps. Inspiré par la philosophie du « qi », je cherche à entraîner les spectateurs dans un monde multidimensionnel, poétique, surréaliste et séduisant.


Biographie

Né à Shanghai, en Chine, où il a grandi, Shen Wei vit et travaille maintenant à New York. Il est connu pour ses portraits intimes des autres et de lui-même, ainsi que pour ses photographies poétiques de paysages et de natures mortes. Son travail a été exposé dans le monde entier, notamment au musée de la ville de New York, au Philadelphia Museum of Art, à la Power Station of Art de Shanghai, en Chine, à la Fondation Hasselblad de Göteborg, en Suède, au North Carolina Museum of Art et au Museum of Contemporary Photography de Chicago. Son travail a été présenté dans le New York Times, The Guardian, The New Yorker, The Financial Times, Aperture, ARTnews, Paris Review, Le Figaro et American Photo. Les œuvres de Shen Wei figurent dans la collection permanente du Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), du Philadelphia Museum of Art, du J. Paul Getty Museum, du Museum of Contemporary Photography, de la Library of Congress, du Carnegie Museum of Art, du Morgan Library & Museum, du CAFA Art Museum et du Ringling Museum of Art, entre autres.

Shen Wei est lauréat de la Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Arts Residency, de l’Asian Cultural Council Arts & Religion Fellowship, de la New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship et du Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Arts Grant. Il est titulaire d’une maîtrise en beaux-arts (photographie, vidéo et médias connexes) de la School of Visual Arts de New York et d’un baccalauréat en photographie du Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
